The year is 1930s, and the turbulence of Siamese politics provides the backdrop of this powerful drama. Jan Dara is a teenage boy who grows up in the house of Luang Wisnan, the sadistic father who despises him for being the cause of his mother's death. Wisnan is a man who enjoys sexual excess, and Jan grows up in a hothouse of erotic activities. His relationships with women -- from his stepmother, Wad, and Wisnan's beautiful lover, Boonlueng -- are characterised by deep longing and inexplicable desires. Jan falls in love with Hyacinth, a girl as pure as a white cloth, but the violent and depraved atmosphere in which he's grown up leaves a mark that will affect him throughout his life.
